The Benefits Of Multiple Sclerosis Therapy

Multiple sclerosis is an inflammatory neurological disease that can generate a wide range of physical and psychological symptoms. Multiple sclerosis involves the deterioration of myelin, a substance that surrounds the bodys nervous cells. Myelin has a very important role in the transmission of nervous impulses, and if this substance is affected, the entire activity of the nervous system is seriously compromised. Although the actual causes of multiple sclerosis remain unknown, there are several hypotheses that present genetic abnormalities as the main factors responsible for causing the disease. Medical scientists believe that multiple sclerosis occurs on the background of inherited genetic predispositions, and environmental factors are suspected to be triggers of the disease. Some hypotheses also introduce viral infections in this scenario, although infections with viruses dont seem to contribute to the development of the disease.

Multiple sclerosis can affect the body on different levels. The majority of people with multiple sclerosis suffer from dysfunctions of the muscular system, while others also develop neuropsychological dysfunctions. Multiple sclerosis usually generates a wide range of symptoms: body weakness, pronounced fatigue, muscle numbness, poorly coordinated moves, poor balance. People affected by multiple sclerosis can in time experience decreased visual acuity, mental states of confusion and even short-term memory loss. People with multiple sclerosis can also suffer from depression, which is common in more than 80 percent of patients with the disease.

Although there is no cure for multiple sclerosis, most medical treatments can alleviate the symptoms generated by the disease, also preventing their recurrence. However, the majority of medications prescribed in long-term multiple sclerosis treatments (beta interferon, corticosteroids) can generate many side-effects, causing additional damage to the body. Hence, it is best to avoid following long-term treatments with potentially-harmful drugs. In many cases, multiple sclerosis therapies can ameliorate physical symptoms just as well, without using any drugs. Considering the fact that most symptoms generated by the disease are linked to the musculoskeletal system, the majority of multiple sclerosis therapies are focused on improving muscular mobility and tonus through physical exercise. Multiple sclerosis therapy through exercise can help patients regain their strength, coordination and balance, alleviating muscular pain, numbness and stiffness.

The majority of multiple sclerosis therapies involve recuperative physical exercises and medical gymnastics. Other forms of multiple sclerosis therapies include recreational physical activities, such as swimming, jogging or the practice of different sports. Most people who have followed such multiple sclerosis therapies have experienced an amelioration of their physical symptoms and have improved their overall health condition. Although medical treatments are required for most patients, people who follow multiple sclerosis therapy need smaller doses of medications. Combined with an appropriate diet and a healthy lifestyle, multiple sclerosis therapy through exercise can be very benefic.

The Medical Scrubs Worn By Medical Professionals

Worn by professionals around the world who work at various levels, medical scrubs are very comfortable to wear. Medical scrubs are available in many colours and they enable a workforce to look smart and presentable. As the people who work in many types of medical fields communicate with the public at all times, it is important that the medical scrubs which they wear suit their actual purpose.

The Many Medical Scrubs Which Can Be Worn

There are several tops that can be bought which match trousers that are already in use. These particular medical scrubs are normally dark or light blue but they are also available in a variety of other colours. Black, purple, green and white are obtainable and can be bought in order to replace tops which are worn by other members of staff. As the people who work in a hospital or a General Practitioners office may already wear a certain colour, any new top which is bought can match what is sported by other medical professionals.

Other medical scrubs can be bought as well, such as scrub suits. Scrub suits which have drawstring trousers are purchasable from many major retailers, as are scrub suits which have boot cut trousers. Long sleeve scrub suits are also available as well. These particular scrub suits are normally worn by medical professionals who specialise in hazardous situations, such as in cold temperatures. As a long sleeve scrub suit helps the body to maintain its temperature, they are very comfortable to wear as well.

Scrub suits should match the environment which they will be worn in. For example, loose scrub suits are not normally sported by surgeons because this can hamper them when performing detailed surgery; choosing a theatre nurses dress for such individuals will enable this suitable item of clothing to offer protection yet not influence the way in which these professionals do their job.

Cherokee Scrub Suits Can Be Worn When Interacting With Children

If staff work in a childrens ward or in another environment which means that they come into contact with young people, wearing Cherokee scrub suits is highly recommended. These scrub suits are available in bright and vibrant colours. Cherokee scrub suits also have various animals and characters on them. Cherokee scrub suits are often worn by midwives because they help to stimulate childrens senses; this is very important because a childs vision can develop as a direct result. Although they normally have short sleeves, Cherokee scrub suits which have long sleeves can also be bought.

If you are the type of person who wants to not only make good money, have a career that has a great outlook for the future and wants to help make a positive change in someones life, then therapist jobs are where you should be looking. There are many different disciplines in the therapy profession and each one of them does different things to help improve a patients everyday life. Each of the different therapist jobs pays very well, as the average salary is somewhere between $40,000 and $87,000, depending which specific path you want to follow. Here is a look at this different types of therapy jobs and what each one deals with.

Perhaps the most recognizable of all therapy jobs that everyone knows what they do is massage therapy. If anyone hears the words “massage therapist” they likely know immediately what it is that this type of therapist job involves. Massage therapy deals mostly with the different muscles in the body. It is their job to use a number of different techniques to help reduce stress that the patient may be dealing with. This usually comes in the form of a back massage. They also deal with trying to eliminate or reduce the amount of pain a patient is feeling.

Another profession on the long list of therapy jobs that everyone has probably heard of is that of a physical therapist. Physical therapy jobs focus primarily on the rehabilitation of a patient, allowing them to live their life better. Most often, a physical therapist will deal with patients who have to deal with some kind of physical limitation, which is usually the result of an accident or illness. Sometimes they may also help patients that are physically disabled due to some kind of disease. Manual Therapy For The Treatment Of Temporomandibular Disorder New Research

You notice some pain in your jaw when chewing, which progressively worsens over several weeks. Occasionally you feel a clicking or catching in your jaw when opening and closing your mouth. Eventually you are unable to fully open your mouth and experience pain even when you speak. If you have never experienced this, count yourself very lucky. If you have, you are already familiar with the relatively common condition known as TMD.

TMD, short for temperomandibular disorder, is estimated to affect as much as 40% of the population at some point in their lifetimes, and is especially prevalent in the young. Initial diagnosis is typically made through a visit to the dentist, and the eventual treatment multidisciplinary with various management techniques. One of the lesser known treatment techniques, but something that is gaining in popularity, is soft-tissue therapy of the masticatory muscles the muscles used to move the jaw.

As a sports chiropractor using manual soft-tissue therapy on a daily basis, I have treated TMD on many occasions with success, however good research on the subject has been lacking. Recently however, this type of myofascial therapy for TMD was tested for efficacy in a randomized, controlled clinical trial. Researchers from Macquarie University in Sydney, Australia examined the clinical effectiveness of manual therapy in the treatment TMD. Specifically, they compared myofascial therapy to myofascial therapy plus self-care and education and no care (the control group in the study).

This was a private clinic-based study, with eligible participants ranging from age 18-50 presenting with jaw pain with or without joint sounds of at least 3 months and a willingness to participate in the study. Patients with physical or psychological contraindications were excluded. The outcome measures were jaw pain at rest, jaw pain upon maximal active opening, and jaw pain upon clenching.

The primary therapy consisted of myofascial release of the masticatory muscles, including the temporalis, medial and lateral pterygoid, and masseter. The subjects were treated twice per week over a period of 6 weeks for a total of 12 therapy sessions. Additionally, one group was given additional education and self-care consisting of self-mobilization, exercises and stretching, as well as general education on TML anatomy, biomechanics, disc displacement and dysfunction, and the role of psychoemotional factors contributing to TMD.

The results showed a statistically significant positive efficacy for both the myofascial therapy only, and the myofascial therapy plus education and self-care groups. Not surprisingly, the therapy plus self-care group showed a better 1 year outcome than the therapy alone group a trend that has been supported for the care of most musculoskeletal conditions.

Although the results of this study are no surprise to those practicing manual therapy, it serves to reinforce what we already know anecdotally. For patients suffering from TMD there is now evidence for another great intervention, and for manual therapists not currently treating TMD, there is a great opportunity to expand your skillset and serve those in need.

Photodynamic Therapy For Beautiful Skin

Photodynamic therapy is the general name given to therapy using light-lamps of different types. Such light sources (filtered light or LED) are commonly used by dermatologists to repair skin and even psychiatrists to fight depression and sleep disorders (such as the winter blues etc). The effectiveness of blue light is still being studied on a clinical and institutional level, however, since the FDA approves of light therapy (especially blue light), many medical practitioners use it to great effect, often claiming very good results for the majority of their subjects (unofficially).

Varicose, spider veins, acne and the removal of marks on the skin due to discoloration (caused by wounds or surgery) are the most common uses of light for skin therapy. New uses of light, specifically of blue colored light (with a wavelength between 405-455 nm), are still being discovered today. Many treatments combine the use of this type of light with red light and other medication to cure many skin afflictions, the most common of which are acne and some other bacterial infections. The following are some of the other uses of blue light which have proven effective.

Anti aging light treatment
The treatment of skin to reduce the effects of aging is called photo-rejuvenation. The application of focused light can increase the production the chemicals in the skin which make it arrear fresh and youthful (collagen and elastin). Smile lines, age lines and wrinkles are commonly treated with light of various frequencies, including blue light. Many people all over the world regularly use this type of treatment as an addition to cosmetic surgery or other skin care treatment.

Drug allergy symptoms on the skin surface
Allergies which cause inflammation and discoloration of the skin are commonly experienced with the use of medicines for other purposes. Even though these effects are actually side effects of other causes usually unrelated to the skin, the symptoms can still be treated using light therapy.

Rosacea
This condition causes the skin on the face; cheeks, nose forehead neck and even the chin to appear red as though burnt raw or flushed. This skin condition is not medically understood to a great extent and is usually chronic and untreatable with medication. This condition is known to cause psychological difficulties as it affects the appearance in a negative way and can affect a person’s confidence and self esteem over a long term. The reason for this condition is understood to be damaged blood vessels, and light therapy using pulses of various types of mixed light in certain instances has been seen to disintegrate these damaged vessels, helping remove this symptom and leaving the skin looking natural and healthy without the use of drugs or creams.

A Medical Call Answering Service Meets The Needs Of The Health Care Industry

There are a number of important things to consider when running an efficient medical facility. Medical professionals typically receive high call volumes that need to be handled by knowledgeable staff. Contemporary medical practices enlist the assistance of a medical call answering service in order to ensure proper client care from the moment a potential patient contacts their facility. This is quickly becoming the most reliable and proficient way to field calls from patients around the clock.

Medical practices cannot take the risk of relying on voicemail or answering machines. Even those facilities that are not emergency clinics or that do not typically provide urgent care can never be sure when one of their patients will call them with a pressing concern. For a successful medical business that people can rely on, it is important that your patients have 24-hour access to a professional medical call answering service even if your clinic is only open during the day. This will guarantee that they are given proper instructions to receive optimum care. A professional medical call answering service will ease the burden of scheduling appointments, answering medical questions when possible, making sure that medical emergencies are dealt with properly, and directing calls when necessary.

Be sure to enlist the help of answering services specifically geared towards providing medical assistance. A medical call answering service that is HIPPA compliant is a necessity. HIPPA law requires absolute patient confidentiality, which will guarantee that your practice stays within legal guidelines and that your patient information will be treated with integrity.

Nurse telephone triage service is another essential component for running a professional medical facility that meets patient needs with the greatest care. Before enlisting the help of a medical answering service, make sure that they are connected with a nurse telephone triage unit who will be able to assess the urgency of patient calls. Highly trained nurses will have a deep understanding of how to determine which patients need immediate care. The ability to prioritize patient care will be invaluable to your medical practice.

Employing a competent answering service trained in handling medically-related calls will give you peace of mind knowing that your patients are being cared for even when you are off the clock. When you are working, such services will also allow you to focus on your patients without distraction as calls are fielded by professionals highly trained in serving the health care industry. A reputable medical answering service will become a reliable extension of your facility.

Find The Best Medical Call Center

Having a medical practice means that you are going to need to have a reliable way of keeping in touch with your patients. If they have problems or questions about the medical procedures, medicines, or aftercare plans, they are going to need to have a way of contacting you with their questions. You also want to make it easy for them to be able to schedule appointments and have someone to answer some of their routine medical questions. If there is an emergency, you will certainly want to be there for them. One of the best options for those who have clinics is to use a medical call center.

However, you need to make sure that the center you are using is capable of handling the type of work you need. It’s not prudent to hire just any company for this task. You need to make sure that the medical call center you choose hires employees who have HIPAA training, as well as medical knowledge to help you patients. When you are hiring a company, make sure that you research and see that they will be able to handle the job properly.

One of the most important things to consider is what type of call services they offer. Are the employees going to be able to help with scheduling appointments and routing your calls to the correct physicians? Will they have the training and ability to answer some of the simple medical questions that your patients might ask when they are calling? Can they determine if there is an emergency where they need to contact you right away? The experience of a medical call center is going to be a major factor when you are making your decision.

Another thing that you should think about when hiring is what hours the call center works. It’s simply not good enough to hire a medical call center that works 8 to 4 or 9 to 5. You need a company that is going to be able to answer your phones for you throughout the day and night, all year long, including holidays. Just because you aren’t at the clinic, it doesn’t mean that your patients don’t have needs. Round the clock service is vital.

Take the time to go compile a list of the things that you want from an answering service, and it will be much easier to narrow your choices and find the company that offers what you need.

Why Consider Red Light Anti-aging Therapy

Red light therapy has gained quite a lot of popularity as an effective non-invasive anti-aging skin rejuvenation therapy. Free from all the side effects of other anti-aging and anti-wrinkle treatment procedures like chemical peels, microdermabrasion, lasers and plastic surgery, red light anti-aging and skin rejuvenation therapy uses red light to stimulate the skins natural healing process thereby reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Here in this article we will take a look at some of the major benefits of red light anti-aging therapy over other forms of anti-aging therapies.

Advantages of Red Light Therapy Over Other Anti-Aging Treatment

Here are some of the major benefits of red light skin rejuvenation therapy over other types of anti-aging treatments –

Cutting edge technology – Red light therapy was originally developed by NASA to stimulate growth of plants around 40 years ago when it was discovered that red light also promoted healing of injuries. This is the technology used in red light treatment. Red light lamps are used to emit UV free red light which stimulates the cell repair process resulting in firmer and younger looking skin.

Treats multiple problems – This therapy treats multiple issues right from reducing wrinkles and fine lines, scars, stretch marks to making the skin more firm and young. Besides these anti-aging benefits, red light therapy is also used in the treatment of acne, sprains, bone injuries and healing wounds.

It treats the core problem, not just the symptom – Red light therapy works at the cellular level to reduce appearance of wrinkles and firm up the skin tissue. Red light between the wavelengths of 620 to 700nm when absorbed by the skin stimulates it to increase production of elastin and collagen. This leads to the reversal of the aging process. It also promotes oxygenation and hydration of the skin which help to restore elasticity.

No negative consequences – Unlike other invasive anti-aging and skin rejuvenation treatments, red light therapy is free from side effects. This therapy is completely painless and does not involve any surgery, thermal damage, discomfort, discoloration, scarring or down time.
